Native is now the future of mobile at Shopify

Shopify is abandoning React Native and returning to separate Swift and Kotlin codebases for its mobile apps. The post explains that while native still means maintaining two platforms, AI agents can now handle enough implementation, testing, and review work to make that cost acceptable. Shopify credits React Native for six years of service and is rehoming its react-native-skia and flash-list libraries, while archiving restyle in late 2026.
