High flood pressure

This article describes the author's personal experience with UK flooding after buying a house near the River Avon. It explores the UK Environment Agency's flood monitoring API, downloading 18 GB of historical river level data. Using Python scripts and data analysis, the author filters and visualizes river levels, identifying peaks from storms Ciara and Dennis. The analysis includes cumulative distribution functions to show these storms produced exceptional river levels. The piece combines data science, API usage, and environmental monitoring, relevant to IT/technology through programming and data handling.
