Why use ECC?

This article refutes a prominent blogger's case against ECC memory by critically examining his points, particularly the claim that Google's initial avoidance of ECC was correct. It argues that Google quickly realized this was a mistake and uses other examples of Google's failed hardware experiments to show that copying their early cost-saving measures is not a sound strategy.
