Mercator ↔ Equal Earth

This article presents an interactive animated map that smoothly transitions between the Mercator and Equal Earth map projections using a slider or play button. Built with D3, the visualization allows users to blend between the two projections to observe how each represents the world differently, particularly in terms of area and shape preservation. The author created it after curiosity about the Equal Earth projection, which was recently voted on at the UN. The tool serves as an educational demonstration of map projections and their geographic properties.
