This article argues that blind reviews are fundamentally flawed for selecting talks at industry tech conferences. The author, drawing from committee experience, contends that judging by short abstracts leads to conservative choices, penalizes challenging topics and skilled speakers who write poor abstracts, and strips away personality from proposals.
